Look, don't get me wrong, I love the sport. I play it twice a week. I TiVo'd Confed Cup games. I'm ecstatic that the US actually performed when it mattered against Egypt. But how, really, can the US advance to the semis of the Confed Cup ahead of the Abruzzi (Italians)? Italians beat the US 3-1, then lost a shocker to Egypt 1-0 and finally lost a crapper to the Brazilians 3-0; final record 1-2. The US lost said game to Italy, lost a total stinker to Brazil 4-0 and finally outplayed the Turkish Egyptians; final record 1-2. So, with the same record (and goal differential), Confed Cup goes to total goals scored (US - 4, Italy - 2) to determine the other semifinalist. The fact that Italy BEAT the US? Irrelevant.
I will be psyched to watch the game against Spain on Wednesday, though. Big opportunity for the US. Spain is pretty much the best team in the world right now. And they have the fullback (Sergio Ramos) who looks like the kid (Wiley Wiggins) from Dazed and Confused.
